Cheong Fatt Tze mansion is located at Leith Street. Its Indigo-Blue outer wall makes it a very distinct building in the area. The mansion is one of the only three stately Chinese – style mansions remaining outside China.

This mansion built by the most generous philanthropy and influential businessman Cheong Fatt Tze. He hired a team of master craftsmen from China to build this mansion and it take 7 years to complete.

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion has won numerous awards such as 2000 UNESCO “ Most Excellent” heritage Conservation Award, 2011 Lonely Planet One of 10 Greatest Mansion In the World’s.

Now it is open for public to visit, the tour are offered in English three times a day, 11am,2pm and 3.30pm. The tour guide will tell you the historic and architecture of this building, Cheong Fatt Tze biography etc.

Putu Mayam is Indian snack; it is eaten as a sweet dish. In Penang this food commonly sold as street food.

Putu Mayam taste like steam vermicelli, it is served with brown sugar, white sugar and grated coconut. Some places are also selling green Putu Mayam which adding juice from aromatic pandan leaf as flavouring.

This food can serve hot or cold, the stall near Penang Times Square is serving hot Putu Mayam, they made the food at road side so it is always fresh. A lot of local people like to eat this food, they normally parking their cars or motorcars at roadside to buy a pack of Putu Mayam.

Penang Chinese Methodist Church

Penang Chinese Methodist Church is the first Chinese Church in Malaysia. It was established on May 5, 1895 when Dr West and Lau Seng Chong from Singapore started gospel work among the Hokkien speaking Chinese in Penang.

In the early year this church did not have a permanent worship place. The present Madras Lane site completed on July 4, 1937. The chapel been used since then. It has two Sunday service, 8.45am is English Chinese service and 11am is Hokkien service.

The church building is refers to the Europe and American church architecture. It looks good and special. It is a traditional church, you can see the long wooden chair, Chinese tradition bible, Hokkien hymn in this church.

Building on left is Menara Centennial Methodist, the office, kindergarten and multipurpose hall in this building. And the building on right is for refreshments and Disciple training.

The church is not open for visit; however you are welcome to join their service on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

101 Lost Kitten is a street art project leading by Thailand artist Natthapon Muangkliang, Malaysian arties Louise Low and Tang Yeok Khang. It is to create awareness toward stray animals.

New Lane Fried Fish Meat Beehoon

If you are rush or hungry, I will not advise you to get a plate of Fried beehoon with fried fish meat at New Lane Goh Chew coffee shop ,because you have to wait unless half hour to one hour for food to ready.

Why people willing to wait for long just for a food?

Actually it is a normal fried beehoon, but the fish meat is delicious and fresh. You can see the staff cut the fish there and they deep fried the fish to golden colour, so the skin is crispy and the meat is still juicy inside.

The price is not cheap; it is about RM 10 per portion.

Did you see these 3 wall murals?

“Sister and Brother playing basketball”, “Children on the Swing” and “Nostalgic Meal Order”.

These wall murals are painted by local young artist named Louis Gan.

He was invited by a businessman to paint the first mural wall “Children on the Swing” at Step by Step Lane (Gat Lebuh Chulia). It show that two children enjoying themselves on a swing.

When you cross the road to the old Kwang Wah Yit Poh building, there is another wall mural “Sister and Brother playing Basketball”. These two murals attracted a lot of local and foreign tourists.

Beside that, “Nostalgic Meal Order” on the wall of Pinang’s Pinang, Kinta Lane is painted by Louis Gan too. This mural reflecting the actual past society in Penang. The people living on the second floor were getting their meal from the hawker through a basket lifting out from the window of the house.

New Murals at Penang.

In Novermber 2014, Penang organised an international art festival called Urban Exchange: Crossing over 2014.

A part of this festival, 16 local and international artists painted14 murals in Penang.

There are two large murals at Beach Street private car park.

A large colourful piece is done by local artists group called 4Some. Members of 4Some are Fauzan Faud, Fritilldea,Donald Abraham and Jojo Yusof.

This wall mural is near Little India. Since that place is a bright and vibrant place full of colours, so 4Some decided to make the mural colourful. And the large boat is reflects the old days when Indian labourers come to Penang by boat.

On the other side of car park, there is Symbiotic mural done by Germany artist Karl Addison.

‘Reaching up’ is a mural painted on a wall along Cannon Street. It is one of the murals painted by Ernest Zacharevic. It show that a boy standing on a chair, reaching for something at the hole in the wall.
This mural attracted a lot of local and foreign visitors coming to take photos.

Hong Kong TVB drama “Outbound Love” also has a lot of street art scene. This “Reaching up” mural appears many times in that drama. Not the less, similar mural also found in China.

The Ice Kacang stall is just at the roadside, it is running by an old man for nearly 3 years. He also have Cendol and other drinks.

He said it is a branch from Penang Road Cendol which opposite Joo Hooi Cafe.

The Ice Kacang is delicious because it has a lot of sweet corn, herbal jelly, read bean, peanut, attap chee ( Palm tree fruit) with red syrup and topped with evaporated milk.

It is not too sweet so it just taste good.

A bowl of Ice kacang is RM2.00, take away price is RM2.20, Ice Kacang with ice cream on top is RM 2.80.
